SDRC hosts a Transformational Lab at the FES Just Transition Forum in Asia

On the invitation of FES on Gender and Sustainable Energy, SDRC participated as a host at the Transformation Lab as part of the virtual “Just Transition Forum in Asia 2021” on September 9, 2021, organized by Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) Regional Climate and Energy Project in collaboration with Climate Action Network Southeast Asia (CANSEA).

The one-hour dialogue engaged prominent speakers from the private and public sectors, to unlock some of the key dimensions that link women’s empowerment with the energy transition.

Among the topics discussed were whether and how new opportunities for women’s empowerment can be expected from the energy transition around the globe; how energy transition could foster more inclusive policy-making in Asia; and how Asian institutions are responding to women’s entrepreneurship and a growing clean and green energy sector.

SDRC was represented by Sanjukta Mukherjee, Satrajit Sanyal and Judhajit Sanyal who shared their observations and engaged with around five hundred participants and incumbents through both their deliberations in the transformation lab and the conference.

The output of the session focussed on:

  • Initiating the social dialogue building process for an inclusive and just energy transition
  • Creating a network of invested stakeholders keen to do their bits to implement a green energy future in Asia which will be just and equitable.
  • On behalf of Sustainable Design Research Consortium, representing the India case study of cohorts of women ecopreneurs as climate change agents and their journey for securing their livelihoods and driving climate action.

A huge amount of SDRC work is focussed on empowering women and girls through education in the opportunities for livelihood development using clean tech and grassroots solutions in shaping a climate resilient future powered by renewable energy. SDRC presentation was capped by a case study using as an example the stories of women ecopreneurs from the recently concluded project Post COVID Roadmap for Women Focussed Green Livelihoods with empowered women entrepreneurs by awareness raising and building capacity from West Bengal, India.
